Dear Hiring Manager,
As a Primary/Junior educator, I want to provide learning experiences for children that make them wonder. When the students I work with are inquiring and they make a discovery, the ‘aha!’ moment is one of the most rewarding moments in teaching, both for the student and myself. To facilitate these experiences I also believe in providing a peaceful classroom, where we treat one another with respect and honesty. In my classroom natural materials would be used to decorate and teach, and student work would be featured. Both the indoor room and the environment would serve as classrooms to my future students.
In my practice, I’ve come to know that in order for students to learn a concept fully, they need to experience it for themselves. My future classroom would host hands-on, differentiated learning that fosters individual growth. One example is a binder of year-long plans I created for grades 4, 5 and 6 combining math curricula with environmental education. I also know that the full experience of school is not just within the classroom. I am able to coach volleyball, cross-country skiing and would be thrilled to assist with or create an environmental education program.
My approach to teaching is rooted in four main philosophies; the importance of critical thinking, independence, clear communication and peer mentoring. By teaching students of all ages these skills, I am able to teach a classroom of flexible, resilient students who can help each other, themselves, and are ready for a fast-paced future. Because students traditionally spend one year with a teacher and move on, I want to provide them with skills to support themselves no matter what age they are or environment they are in. I do this by teaching students research skills, self-advocacy and goal setting.
I know it takes dedication, passion and energy to teach students today. As an emergency supply EA, ECE and OCT, I have experienced working with students in a dynamic and creative way. I’ve had exposure to many positions in different schools and can be versatile and flexible, no matter where I teach or who I am teaching. My AQ course in Special Education and work with special needs students has also expanded the population of students I can help succeed. I am a passionate, courageous, decisive individual who is keen to take initiative and start an exciting and creative teaching career with you. In an interview, I look forward to sharing my ideas and experiences and how we can work together to help students succeed.
Sincerely,
Megan McMillan
